Not wondering for employment or hiring wondering about for my portfolio and investment strategy. I know Netflix used to be but seems like all entertainment companies are streaming now. Netflix’s competitive advantage was their tech. Now it’s their entertainment IP ? Their tech doesn’t seem like it’s above all the other streaming services in any way. If so though please inform me
N in faang should be nvidia
With the amount of money they pay, I don’t give a shit what you call it.
Wasn't spinnaker developed at Netflix?
Spinnaker is a pos
Pos?
If someone pays me 500k all cash, I’ll call whatever they want me to call them. There is no 4 year vesting either with that netflix all cash pay
I got a check for you…. Call me mommy
Their tech is still better than the other streaming services. But I don’t see any new innovation on the tech side coming from them so I’d consider them an entertainment company now.
I find these questions a little silly. Isn't Facebook and Google just advertisement companies by this logic? Amazon a logistics company, uber a taxi company, etc They all have interesting tech challenges and pay engineers well to solve them and innovate. That's enough to be a "tech" company imo
Given that netflix’s streaming and recommendation have mature, it might less incentivized to invest in tech. On the other hand, its competitors are catching up tech barrier and streaming war is more about content rather than delivery (streaming and recommendations).
Cramer replaced Netflix with Microsoft when renaming FAANG to MAMAA and I don’t really see how they innovate from tech. Not to say their stock can’t outpace “tech” companies. But I’d work at Netflix over most “tech” companies by what you’re getting at
Netflix has way better tech than the rest of the streaming offerings except Prime Video. It’s orders of magnitude better than Prime Video.
I get upset when I have to use Prime for a movie. It’s been unpolished for so long. Though the IMDB integration is kinda lit
They were/are pioneers in the cloud. AWS benefitted a lot from their success and many companies still follow their example in infrastructure engineering.
I doubt it ever was, to be honest. Most of it was overhyped
I mean when they overtook blockbuster that was tech and not hype ….now though it’s a different story
They overtook Blockbuster by efficiently shipping DVDs so I would say it was logistics, much more than tech. Later, they became the first movie streaming company at scale... Didn't last long, though
