Last week I signed an offer with Netflix. I wouldn’t have done that with the current news. Relocating to LG (los gatos) with kids and having family dependent on my health insurance, makes getting laid off costly for me and family. I like my job and have good team. Really good oncall. I accepted netflix since it was a good learning opportunity and much higher TC. I know it’s shitty to back up on signed offer but moving to lg and everything with family makes me worried. It wouldn’t look good with netflix manager and is a small world… netflix manager is friends of friends and word will go out to a wide audience if I renege, for sure. also wouldn’t look good with my SDM telling her Im going and now not. However, given stock perf.want to think they’ll understand - family first. Going there and boomerang is not easy. Have kids, need to relocate to Los Gatos and having them change friends and school constantly is not great. I am not worried about TC with stock performance. Im worried about layoffs and having to relocate constantly with kids. Netflix won’t allow remote work due to nature of the work. I had previously posted this on Amazon channel cause I was worried about being identified by Netflix folks but they have bigger worries now to check on Blind posts Thoughts? TC: 350k Netflix TC: 600k
Relocate kids after a while?
Yeah, it sucks though.
It’s double your salary lol it’s worth the risk
Netflix just laid off their Animation division. I wouldn't be rolling the dice just yet with a family to worry about.
No they didn’t. The laid off a small part of it not all of it
These sorts of things happen all the time I wouldn’t sweat it too much
Almost double the TC, all cash and discounted stock. Sounds great to me!
Dude you need to grow up. Netflix isn’t some shitty company that isn’t profitable. They make 1b in profit per quarter. It is still a cash flow machine. Chill tf out
Amortized accounting. They lose money.
plz go to read netflix’s earring report. they’re still losing money
Should you call first asking about layoff first before any speculation?
You’re overthinking it. Take the Netflix offer. Earnings didn’t do well but I don’t think the company will be doing layoffs. If anything, hiring freeze in the future. Even if they did layoffs, you’d still have another FAANG on your resume and the severance would be fat. Low risk imo
Dude you are overthinking. Reneging happens everytime and is surprisingly common. No one is that important to hold a grudge against you if you leave. But mainly worried about how your sdm will react since you said that you will leave.
Exactly, main worry.
Yeah you can discuss with him. But you are the one who knows your sdm the best. You know how he will react
Does your thinking change if Amazon stock tanks by 50%? Cause that is a possibility.
No cause of diversified product.
Amazon is going to drop mate. Be ready for pre pandemic prices after earnings. Save this comment
Make sure you get it all cash dude
Also, worst case, company goes under.. So what? Many tech companies would be happy to scoop you up. Don’t worry about it
It’s all cash
