Currently an SDE3 in AWS. Netflix (remote) and FB (Seattle) both are offering a $490k for joining as Sr. SDE and E5 respectively. I'm wondering how should I evaluate these wrt 1/ company growth potential, 2/ career growth potential and 3/ compensation (Netflix is all cash, FB is cash + 50% equity + 100k joining bonus). AWS TC $330k. #netflix #aws #fb
I'd take Netflix any day of the week
why?
1. Netflix gives you all cash. You can choose to have Netflix shares purchased though. 2. 490k TC > 390K TC (don't include sign on bonus lol) 3. Facebook stock has been sidelining due to lack of innovative consumer products and endless concerns due to potential antitrust and privacy laws. You can raise a similar concern for Netflix stock, but your entire comp is cash, so who the fuck cares? 4. Facebook bi-annual hunger games really suck ass 5. Netflix more prestigious and less college-kids culture. Pros for FB: 1. you can excel in your hunger games and get good refreshers but at 400K+ TC, refreshers won't make a dent in the quality of your daily lives.
How hard is the math here? Netflix TC is $490K and FB TC is $390K.
^đ you should of got more likes for this !
YOE?
Why would you count sign on bonus in your tc?
Isnât that the meaning of the word âtotalâ....of âtotal compensationâ fame.
I mean forget about what tc actually means. When you are choosing youâre next role based off compensation, makes no sense to choose based off the first year comp unless you plan on leaving every year. Should look at average comp over at least 3-4 years
Netflix đžđž
I thought amazon l6 maps to fb E6..saw the other thread where op got offer for E6 with TC around 600k
Depends, if you are recently promoted to L6 you are most likely an E5
L6 at amzn doesnât guarantee L6 at fb or anywhere else! Same goes to L6 at fb doesnât mean amzn will give L6 offer
Why is your TC so low as sde3? Yoe?
Yoe?
Both companies performance manage employees just like Amazon does, but Netflix is your better option because they don't have URA quotas which FB has.
The rating is similarly distributed but managers do not have URA goals. Sorry Amazon
Is 490 for fb with signing bonus?
yes
It's easier to just give the breakdown of the numbers instead of giving the lump sum of the first year salary. You get to avoid these questions and others can compare more fairly.
