Stop reading if you are not a network engineer. Did anyone clear the NDE interview at Amazon without prior BGP/OSPF industry experience? Most of the roles require BGP and OSPF experience but precisely that’s why I want to get into Amazon so that I can get some experience on these technologies. Theoretical knowledge on these doesn’t seem to work out to clear the interviews. Kind of a vicious loop. Suggestions/experiences please?
Also I would suggest get good coding practice. Because all big companies look for network engineers with good coding knowledge. And thats a rare gem to find. Target google, fb, Amazon etc for network software engg/ network production engineer/ network automation engineer etc.
Thanks
Thanks. What languages/tools you think are important other than python?
You should have solid understanding of TCP/IP as well. Watch all videos on CCIE.
To understand these protocols like professional, you need hands on. Theoretical questions any one can answer . But most of the time interviewer ask, situational questions which would be difficult to ans if you don't have really good deep knowledge especially with BGP. BGP is very challenging if you think about it in a depth.
No, BGP is perhaps one of the easiest routing protocols to understand. With a solid networking background, BGP is a piece of cake. Well, I could be bias I’ve been doing this shit for a long time.
There is no way that you can pass interview without production experience. I was at aws 4 years and it took me 5 minutes to get that candidate had no idea what he was talking about. Try to get skills at companies with low barriers.
Strong understanding of protocols like OSPF, BGP, MPLS. TCP/IP and good level of python scripting and automation. Also need to be good on LPs
Did u interview for amazon? If yes can u let me how did ur interview went? Looking to get full time there
Yes, it was good.
Hey folks, Don't scare the op I never really worked in depth on prod networks.... But I cleared fb multiple network technical interviews... Messed up coding round thou Tip... Don't just study books pages by pages... You will never make it.... Watch and learn from YouTube or paid videos like ine. Com... These ine. Com videos are good enuf to clear faang technical interviews.... Even if you never worked on prod networks These paid videos authors discuss all production real life bgp ospf mpls scenarios... Which will give you 200%confidence to clear faang... My fav author on ine. Com is Keith bogart Good luck 🤞
Thanks!
What kind of coding questions they ask? And which language? Keith is my favorite too..
Also make sure you make your own notes out of the videos you watch.... So that you can refer those quick notes for every interviews... Else repeating the videos again and again is time consuming and not scalable
Golden tip!
I don't say other folks on this post are wrong... But it's surely possible As mentioned in very 1st comment.. by my Juniper Rockstar
I would recommend to spent effort on python software development. Fundamental things - algorithms. Practical - how to apply it for network automation. It would be much easier to get Nde job
Hi ATnT, I have a question: How can one prepare the Network Engineer - coding round? Can you help in how to approach coding prep?what resources?any paid courses?any resourceful youtube channel/author?any websites?Leetcode easy or medium ? Any other? Especially - please let me know - where I should rely/get mock type interview questions. Please advice - as I have cleared technical round and need to schedule a coding round. Thank you 😊
I didn't see faang asking algorithm based python questions.... Most questions were data manipulation... Regex, csv format data... Multi threading a bit... Etc

PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
Trust me, you dont need hands on experience. All you need is a good understanding of different networking protocols. You should be able to understand how different protocols behave in different scenarios and how they interwork with each other. In all good companies they ask theoretical questions and situation based/ topological questions. So prepare well, you should be fine. Do some labs for cisco/juniper routers/switches.
Lol @ not needing production BGP experience. You’re clearly clueless.
You are clueless my friend, i am saying because i have already got into a FAANG without hands on experience. There are different ways to gain Knowledge, experience is just one of them. Number of years of experience on your resume wont land you a job and no one asks what you worked on. Even if you have 15 years of experience, you need to read all theory to prepare for the interviews. And practice competitive coding (if interested in software) Since you could not do it doesnt mean its not doable. And you might say it was a fluke, but i have 4 offers including 2 faangs. 😊 Of course success came after lot of failures but I just kept learning from my own mistakes All the best and let me know if you need a referral
