Dear PMs and Designers on Google Maps team, I know this new UI is being A/B tested but why does anyone think it is even worth a test?? I don’t have any map layers (ie. Traffic, transit view) on and it is already very difficult to read all the info on the map. I’m no expert in design principles - does this even pass basic accessibility test?
Are you in Tokyo?
I’m not… happen to be searching something in Tokyo and noticed how terrible the UI is when the map is busy
Where can I report back on how much it sucks?
In help and feedback. Sometimes they listen.
How to turn off the native language? There isn't an easy way to do it
Ah yes. I just literally had this problem today where I was trying to get the address of a place in Japanese instead of the romanized equivalent. Ended up just going to the Japanese Google domain to do this.
PMs and designers getting promoted for this. Thats all it matters
It's horrendous For a second I thought my Mac booted in windows 98 safe mode
😂😂😂
I thought I was playing Pokemon 🤦♂️
I work at Google and we know theres only one explanation UX or PM going for promo And yes we hate it too
Based on this, they should not be up for promo. What the heck is going on at Google?
@Google makes sense…. PM / UX launches worse version of product to go for promo
This looks hideous
This is an old practical road map type of layout. It's gonna be ugly but I can see what everything is and which raids to avoid.
A decade later Apple Maps wins. 🤣

Use Apple map
🤮🤮🤮🤮
I use Apple Maps primarily now. Google has gone down hill and Waze tries to take me on meaningless detours too often.
