#yelp #layoffs I recently joined Yelp as a new grad employee and got furloughed due to the covid situation. I’m 3 months into my job and don’t know whether to look for contract work or full-time. Ideally I’d like contract work for a few months and go back to yelp once furlough ends, but I don’t know what the situation will be like in a few months. If I apply to a new full-time job, then I’d probably need to apply as a new grad, which a lot of companies aren’t hiring for right now and I feel like I’d be starting from scratch. I was wondering what you guys think would be best?#
Are you on h1b?
What’s your job title?
Not on h1b. Title is Software Engineer
Do not go back
Start looking for a new job. Would not recommend returning to Yelp.
Do you know how long you are furloughed for?
They will "reevaluate" in 4 months, which means Jack shit.
So are all employees at Yelp now working four day weeks for four months?
Might as well look for something more stable. DM if you want a referral to reddit.
If you have some savings and can survive 3 months, you should invest time in leetcode
I would suggest you to look for another job. Only go back if you really cannot find any (and if they allow you to).

I would: - apply for unemployment benefits - look for roles in contract and FT - keep improving your craft (don't stop learning)
