Got new grad offers from the two companies. Pinterest is a pretty solid offer, and the engineering culture there seems pretty good; on the other hand, Cruise is working on self driving car which motivates me to work more, but culture there seems problematic Pinterest TC: 135k base 140k RSU/4yrs 55k signon GM Cruise TC: 140k base 30k annual bonus 80k RSU/4yrs 25k signon
Pinterest will be CRUD. You are young, go and try out self driving car. If you don't like it coming to CRUD world is not difficult!
What's more exciting? Being part of a team making a self driving car a reality, or helping soccer moms pin crap to pinterest?
Obviously pinning soccer moms 😉
Pinterest offer seems better because you will be able to sell the RSUs when they vest. Which teams will you be working on? There are plenty of dull projects at a SDC company, and there are fun projects at a company like Pinterest. Do you want to work on a real product that people already use? Are you okay with working on something that might never launch? What would you like to be able to write on your resume in 2 years time?
I will be joining machine learning infra, I think both companies have pretty interesting data ingestion problems. But I think Cruise has a much bigger scale than Pinterest in terms of data.
Come MLP it’s good
TBH, I don't think there would be much a difference to a new grad, irrespective of the company in terms of tech. You would be just asked to do a piece of piece of piece. So pick as per team.
