New Job is turning out to be very stressful

Recently switched from a product team at a big company to a startup. Things looked rosy from the outside but it's very chaotic internally. Literally no one is helping in the team. Very less response even if I ask for help. What should I do? How can I learn to be competent and not be dependent on others? #imposter syndrome

How long have you been there? The beginning is usually stressful when ramping up but once you get the lay of the land things should be fine

Thanks for the hopeful words. It has been two weeks.

Oh yeah that’s normal then if you’re in a completely new environment and tech stack

That’s how startups roll in general. Learn to browse the code yourself by finding the right entry points (e.g. sniff the browser requests and grep for them in the codebase). Batch any questions you might have and then ask them to a senior dev every couple days, without interrupting multiple times. Startups are very chaotic, and there’s almost never any documentation, everything is tribal knowledge buried in code.

That's very helpful. Thanks!

Agree, there is often very little process at startups and you just have to take more initiative in helping to establish process.

I joined one of the FAANG and it’s equally worse . Strange but true

Good to know that it's normal. Thanks!

Its pretty normal I think as someone pointed out things can get worse due to lack of documentation in a startup so you will have a lot of exploration even post work hours. In addition I would suggest trying to build good rapport with colleagues no matter how hard it is. When you have a good rapport sometimes it feels easier to ask questions and not feel imposter syndrome.
