I really feel sorry for the new SWE grads from BS and/or MS programs The market is lethal right now if you go to the career websites of many tech companies and navigate to the engineering jobs, several have zero positions (e.g pinterest, compass, twilio etc) if you are a new SWE grad, i feel for you and wish you the best just keep working on your skills and work on projects and learn new popular languages => Hey you, yes you, always post TC and YOE just like below TC $300k YOE 12 #layoff #layoffs #swe #jobs
Lmao. Loving the posts to raise awareness for including TC
thanks!
higher studies can be a good option in this economy
why? SWE does not care about degrees except if you are international student just up your coding and soft skills and be ready for a fierce competition
new grads wont be landing faang lvl jobs(high paying jobs) for atleast 6-9 months which will be a very long stressful time, instead i would just go back to school and try to have fun and let things settle down for good
It’s a great time for others to go back to school
can't wait to get back to school, it is so much fun and this time i will value it more
in this information and data age, people still going to college to get more and more useless degrees???!!!??? coursera? youtube? many and tons of websites like udemy? work on projects, work on a small startup and just have fun and learning a lot and be ready to destroy tech interviews when things soften
Appreciate the kind words
Save my soul please
Not even close. The 2009 recession was significantly worse across the board. This is just a small blip in comparison
Yeah that one was awful. Even in 2012 landing a job was hard from that one. People walking around with their bachelor’s trying to get applications to fast food companies because nobody was hiring in CA
The 2009 "recession" was a blip at best. This recession is going to be much worse - maybe as bad as the dot-com bubble popping in the early 2000s.
Unfortunately, this is true, especially for scrubs like me who have some college but never graduated with an actual degree, only possessing a high school diploma. However, there are plenty of CS adjacent roles that pay decently well with plenty of upside, as well as other companies that are hiring. The pay is 🥜, but having a job will make you more attractive to recruiters and hiring managers once the market rebounds to normal. TC: 62K
Why? If they’re good they’ll find a job
Where would they go besides HFT that isn’t frozen right now?
There are plenty of jobs available if you look outside of the FAANG tier - banks, mortgage companies, insurance companies, all sorts of boring businesses small and large. The tech stacks may be horribly obsolete and the TC may be shit but if you just need to get your foot in the door somewhere and earn a steady paycheck until the market recovers the jobs are there.
I don’t feel bad for them tbh. I had to work my ass off, and now they will too. It’s a constant cycle
Where did you start?
Totally agree with this, I graduated in 2008 and that was NOT FUN but I got through it and so will they.
Hey there...my company will hire a CS Grad (BS or MS)..but all MFST tech stack. I'll also work with OPT/CPT and H1B visa transfer. https://aamva.org/about/careers/careers-(aamva)
I don’t see any entry level swe positions?
