I am looking at a career opportunity with a new employer. I was terminated from my last employer. HR stated that they only disclose employment dates and position. In the new employer background check is it possible then to see that I was terminated?
No way bruh it’s dates only. Companies never disclose that because they’re afraid of lawsuits
P
I was under the impression that in my state, at least, they could say who ended the employment
I think they can say whatever they want but for the most part are very limited in what they disclose.
Yeah that's my point they may not say "termination based on performance" but they could say they ended your employment, without being more specific. In that case, you wouldn't want to imply you resigned.
Most employers do BGC post offer, because it costs them money. And they likely will not use anything from your resume...you will fill out some forms regarding address/work/criminal history usually with a third party company. For work history, I have never seen them want more than: employer, title, dates of employment. I have accepted probably 5ish offers, and this was the case every time. Even if they did ask if you were terminated at your prior role, it’s probably better not to lie. I highly doubt at the offer stage, a hiring manager finding out you were terminated from your last role (they would probably have to bug HR for that info anyway) would rescind the offer.
So I’ve already verified with my previous employer that they only disclose dates and position. So unless someone in HR slips up it doesn’t sound like anyone would ever be able to find out. I have been contract with my current employer for 8 months and they are converting me to a direct employee and have to fill out an application and do a background check and they’ve not asked for reason why leaving previous employer but do ask for history.
Didn't realize you had this relationship, you should be set.
I was terminated but I was up front about it, and it didn't hurt my chances. Got 4 offers in the same week including Dropbox, gitlab, and Facebook. Let them know what you learned from the experience but don't be bitter about it. Turn it into a positive that you're now excited for the opportunity ahead.
Nope.

L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
No, unless HR or someone else tells them.
Ok great, I don’t really know what is in a background report and even though my former employer says they only disclose dates and position that there might be some categorical listing on a background check that would come up and simply say “terminated” on my last employer.
Usually HR doesn’t say anything, cause you can sue the company back for defamation
