I’m currently doing an internship at Shopify right after graduating (weird I know) and hope to convert to FT. They are paying me 40 an hour + benefits which is equal to about 85k/year. I have 6 internships (including this one) and a FT offer to Capital One offering 95k total starting in September in Toronto. I hope to convert to Full Time this August at Shopify and was wondering what is the pay range (base + benefits/stock etc) for a new grad Shopify software engineer is based in Toronto? I’ve seen numbers online but most seem outdated. I’m looking for recent data so I know my negotiation better since the company changed a lot recently. #engineering #Toronto #Shopify #newgrad Any input would be appreciated!
90k + 15k usd stock/yr Might not negotiate for intern to ft conversion
That seems pretty low, I was honestly expecting a bit higher even for Toronto. Why wouldn’t they negotiate?
Do you have other offers?
They don't pay extra for particular cities in canada, at least not officially. 85-95k base and 15k/yr usd in stock unless you did extremely well, in which case you'll come in at L5 at around 95-100k base and 25k/yr usd in stock
The standard base for L5 is 95-100k?
For a new grad, yes
L4 (new grad) is 80-90k base and 45k USD / 3 years (15k per year). I had several internships on my resume and was offered 85k base when I converted.
Shopify really pays peanuts to employees....
I got 90k + 45k RSU and I've been told that this is usually the highest they give L4. I know only 1 person who did more and got 100k base (in Toronto).
Same
Did you negotiate or not?
Deliverr offered my classmate 120k/40k stock and a sign on.
Is this in Toronto?
Yeah, although you can live anywhere in Canada

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
Tech Companies > Brick and Mortar Banks. 90-125k should be alright starting.
Even for Toronto?
Yep, looks like it. Check levels.fyi
