New hire ar Cadence and my manager is not giving me something to do. Do I have to ask him to give me some work?
Enjoy this before you get overloaded with work
Did they hire you or you got assigned to them ? It’s a bad sign for sure if you are not looped in or not assigned a buddy/mentor. I’ve have experienced one of my colleagues who was in a similar position and eventually manager terminated him. Turns out that the manager didn’t hire him (He was hired by another HM who left the company). The new manager never liked him.
Definitely ask otherwise they might pip you silently.
Dude! What is your YOE? Even 14 year old teenagers know what to do in such cases?
Ask around and find opportunities to add value. Don't wait for someone to tell you what to do
Am currently experiencing this too. My manager mostly ignores me and acts like an individual contributor. I tried to engage him initially but that didn't work. After that, I ignored him too and I talk to other managers around and offer to help them out. My plan is to either transfer teams or get another offer. You need to manage yourself unfortunately.
