Started a new job as a BIE at Amazon less than 2 months ago. This is my second job ever so I don't have a lot to compare it to. I excelled at my previous job but I haven't been able to deliver results at Amazon and have had to punt my user stories to future sprints twice now. There were some user stories with tight deadlines that I had to pawn off to my mentor since I wasn't going to be able to finish them in time. I feel like I'm not smart enough to do the tasks assigned to me in the allotted time. I'm trying my best to get up to speed as quickly as possible but I'm starting to freak out that I might get fired. Does anyone familiar with Amazon policies know how long someone in my shoes has to improve before they get fired? TC: 150

You probably have two or three more sprints before the manager starts pep talking to you (which means you're in focus) and then another two months (could be less or more depending on teams) before you're on pip. If you're at that stage of pep talk please for the love of all things holy, change your team.
Thanks for your detailed response. My manager sent me a really long message today saying how the user story was appropriate was a newbie and that I should have been able to do it rather than having to pawn it off to my mentor a few days before the deadline. He wants a detailed explanation of why I wasn't able to make any progress even after working on it for an entire week and what I'm planning on on doing to avoid a situation like this. Would you say I'm in focus already?
Yes even though the voice inside your head would be saying that it's probably not a big deal. Don't listen to that voice. Your manager will try to be as non-confrontational as possible and collect all this evidence in email as he's already doing. My wife went through the exact same thing where the manager in an attempt to protect their core team sacrificed a new hire when it was their time to fill in the quota. Your best bet is to play along and change your team behind the scenes and eventually move on from this inherently evil place called Amazon
data jobs n BI stuff are on the line
