https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/23/google-search-boss-raghavan-warns-employees-of-new-operating-reality.html "Google search boss Prabhakar Raghavan told employees to prepare for a different market reality, because “things are not like they were 15-20 years ago.” #google #layoff
Layoffs coming to coasters
yeah that's what it really sounds like
Google’s culture has declined severely, and this article only reinforces that. It’s sad to see a company that once prized their talent now run them through the wringer and then dispose of them once they are no longer useful. “If there’s a clear and present market reality, we need to twitch faster, like the athletes twitch faster,” he said.” And yet with all of the layoffs and stack ranking, they can “twitch fast” as much as they want and not be rewarded for it. Demanding major league pay for a minor league culture and experience is the epitome of a stagnant company. TC: 105K
Google today is where IBM was in 1986. Still respected, but storm clouds are gathering. And I think Google in 15 years will be where IBM was in 2001 (and still is today). A has-been in the tech world.
You're right, but you also work at Toast, so it doesn't count.
Ouch!
This is it boys. It’s finally happening. Google is about to do their biggest product cancellation of them all, sunsetting Google Search.
Lmao
I don't think Google culture will be much worse, they're already treating employees like children, and candidates like garbage. My last team matching call the HM did not even bother to show up. Googlers ego is way too high. Might be paid a bit less in MSFT, but I feel like we're in a better spot, at least we have remote work, still earn >200k for a senior, and projects can be interesting with okay WLB. Also, how the heck Google thinks to compete with other top players when most of hiring is in India (instead in the US)?
Dont join google and stop having fetish over a company now!
Why don't you leave then?
I am semi retired already
