I'm from California and found myself with my wife in nyc for few days. What can we do for new years eve? I thougt we can watch the fireworks but not sure whats the best spot
Not go to Manhattan, I was there yesterday (Rockeller center) and it was a NIGHTMARE. The ratio of space to people was extremely wrong. People pushing and overall awful. If you are fine with having no personal space, the you can go watch the ball drop in Manhattan.
Stay in hotel and have sex
All of the rooftop bars (Skylark, 230 Fifth, etc) as well as many others will have a prix fix menu for festivities which will usually lock you into one spot. For Times Square mayhem, your best bet might be to book a hotel overlooking the festivities. Last, you can always head to Coney Island and do the boardwalk fireworks for free.
Went to see the ball drop in early 20s. Despite what everyone says about crowd and it not being worth it etc. was the best way to welcome NY. The crowd, the energy and being there in that moment with SO was surreal for me.
It's certainly something to check off on the bucket list, but be aware it's going to be more crowded than you've ever imagined. With crowds like that, the pickpockets will have a field day. This late in the game see if you can score reservations for a rooftop bar and enjoy the festivities from there. Prices will be higher than normal due to the day. If you're down at street level, dress warmly and don't forget your warm boots. Have a great time and happy new year.
$2000 table at Olive Garden times square
Agree that NYE in New York is usually $100+ for an event, and hotel rooftop bars usually charge this type of cover. If you want to see fireworks specifically, you can book a boat ride, but it does get claustrophobic with that many drunk folks. There are also fireworks at Central Park and Prospect Park that are a bit more low key.
We NYers avoid touristy midtown by all means. Come downtown or bk
Anywhere good to see the fireworks is either going to be very crowded or very expensive. Be prepared brother
