Has anyone worked at Nike as a contractor? Seems like they really want me, pay is ~200k base, but being in a contractor kinda scares me. They always say contract to hire, but I rarely see it. Anyone at Nike that can speak whether or not Nike hires in contractors? #nike #product
What’s your YOE and which org are you interviewing for ? Unfortunately / fortunately I have seen both things happening. It always has a risk associated with it. I am from India center and was able to convert fast but few colleagues in WHQ were stuck for a long time before they could convert and all were good by all means. I would recommend if you have another option with a good brand even if it’s not as known as NIKE that’s ok. You should take that. I took the risk myself but kind of regretted when I felt things could go wrong when new directors started coming in and interviewing for spots. As a backup I cracked another company.
I’m currently finishing up my contracting position. It’s not guaranteed you’ll convert but just depends on your team/org/manager and timing of things. I unfortunately was about to convert back in October but due to a re-org the position was dropped. I will say that if an opportunity presents itself within your team you’ll have to apply for the role and still go through the interview process just as anyone else.
What org? GT or digital? Contractors get treated differently in different orgs. Also, lots of attrition happening right now. Contractor roles are always available. There are more contractors than FTE at the moment. I would suggest applying to FTE product roles first instead of going contract and hoping to get converted later.
Big firms have many “permanent contract”roles to reduce risk/liability on their books. Given it seems companies can lay off anyone, contract or not, just bake some extra into your fee to cover the fact you wont get severance if you do
They hire contractors for almost every position and level. If you do well, you convert. It is strange, but just how they do it.
