New company does not offer 401k plan/matching. Any advice on the best way to save for retirement?
Having run a startup, the cost to implement a 401k is a few grand a year below 100 people and that’s if you have a good 401k (Fidelity or Vanguard) and not a rip off 401k (which is like 900$ a year). If your company doesn’t have s 401k at all it’s because they are cheap assholes. A match is different; that’s straight up additional comp and much more expensive.
Thanks. Very helpful.
Maybe they think offering a 401k without match looks cheaper than not offering one at all. Not actually cheaper, but appearances.
You can do an IRA (trad or Roth) possibly limited by income level though
