What are your views on OpenAI doing 180 and from non-profit becoming not just a for profit company but also gave up its independence? Also similar strategy is seen adopted by techs starting as open-source and then making it a platform for profit with no stake for contributors. Do we need law around these or lets just leave to noble minds of techies and investors?#tech #opensource #openai #nonprofit #microsoft
They should rename themselves ClosedAI
They must be considering it. It is anyway set to become BingAI. People would anyway know it by that and not the original name.
A cautionary tale in why real open source requires broad community support rather than one company simply producing software under an OSS license.
Researchers and SWE needed to be paid accordingly. To attract top talent OpenAI needed to be able to offer equity.
The compute costs aren’t free. Not only that but paying researchers that could go to FAANG was extraordinarily difficult. With that said I think they are absolutely going to destroy humanity in a way we can’t even currently fathom
Wikipedia data storage is not free either. They manage it with donations !
And if they couldn't pay researchers they should have shut it down rather than duping people ! They are only tad bit better than Theranos in my opinion as far as duping initial stakeholders is concerned or maybe they were all party to it.
