Nordstrom and Affirm Interviews
I have a Nordstrom interview tomorrow for a Senior Software Engineer role and an Affirm interview on Friday for Staff Software Engineer. Both with Hiring managers. Does anyone know what kind of questions to expect in both of these calls? I’ve been told that the hiring manager at Nordstrom would ask coding question in the interview. It’s been a long time since i interviewed, so a little nervous about it. Any pointers are greatly appreciated. #interviews
Don't count on the target bonus number. It has been zero for the last 2 years. Looks like it for this year as well. Your only source of TC is the base salary, try to max it if you get an offer. They always make sure to tell you about the target bonus number as part of your TC but it was really nothing, no target bonus for the last two years.

Do your research. Affirm as a FinTech offering is being integrated into many e-commerce platforms/companies. Nordstrom is a true retail company lead from the brick/mortar and tech second… For both, Research past few earning calls and yearly board reports.research the Board members and their value. Research employee numbers growth, attrition patterns( lots of high changes or very little) Bottom line, write down what you are the things that will make or break a choice. Good luck!
The recruiters like to hand-wave that we match 401k, but it’s after the SECOND year (unless that has changed). Factor that into your negotiations! Good luck!
If you get recruited now at Nordstrom you won’t lose much. You can use you preparation again in October.
With all the jwn tech changes in flight and in H2, folks coming in need to ask pointed questions around tech org direction/strategy stability. Don’t think candidates want to onboard then get RIFFed in H1FY24. Do the research, ask the questions
I gave him 3 months. He will use his current preparation to start searching for a job again.
