In addition to base pay, I get 320000 warrants with 25% vesting per year. I don’t know the value of these warrants since they’ll go IPO only next year. The base pay is ridiculously low but I’m hearing that this is high for Sweden. But why do I then see companies like Spotify and Shopify offer 160k total comp in Sweden on Levels website. Thoughts? TIA. 6 YOE.
As a reference, median salaries in Sweden: https://www.scb.se/hitta-statistik/sverige-i-siffror/utbildning-jobb-och-pengar/medianloner-i-sverige/ US companies (FAANG or pre-IPO startups) in Sweden will generally pay more yes (I’m at 150k$ at staff level). No, it’s not worth moving if your target is TC, keep in mind the tax is ~45-50% at those higher levels. (But 30% on $78k)
You’re making 150k for Staff-level in Sweden? Which location? Stockholm?
Northvolt is a pre-IPO startup. So I’m really hoping that they’ll give a high TC. Requested them to bring the salary up. If not, no use moving to Sweden.
Congratulations on the offer, OP! At the end, this is going to come down to whether or not you think Sweden is worth moving to. The base pay is one thing, but you have to consider taxes and the CoL in Sweden, which is higher in Stockholm and Malmo. The positions you see on Spotify and Shopify are likely higher level positions with base + equity included, but you should be fine on your proposed salary. However, for building wealth over the long run, I would stay in America and probably move to SF or NYC if you want the hustle and bustle of a decent city. In any case, good luck! TC: 90K
Hell no. You work in the us already.
Indian? If yes, no not worth it. Sweden doesn’t have friendly immigration policy. Once you lose your job, you need to go back. No path to PR or anything similar
No that’s the US…. If anything the path to PR is more certain in Sweden than US. Yes you can lose your work visa if you get fired but getting a work visa isn’t a dammed lottery, nearly everyone gets one. Plus, those years count towards permanent residency and there isn’t a 10-15 year backlog.
Sweden is europoor land. Everyone is poor unless their auntie or daddy left some inheritance
If you're in tuvsud, try to get into GRC. They have a pretty good work/life and good comp too
Sweden is a great place to live. Especially if you like the outdoors and want to live in a safe, same country. If you want to stay long term, there are a lot of benefits that more than make up for lower comp. Fair warning, Swedes can be a little strange...in non-multinationals biases against non-locals can be tough. If you value life more than money...go for it :-)
For money and career US. For a lazy life Europe. If you are going to Europe remember that you will never ever make money. There are generational rich people, rest are all poor. Impossible to make it from a humble background, 0% chance if you are an immigrant. Best part is you can get away with not working since pay in general is so less for everyone, not working doesn't hit the pocket. You will see that 99% of the population don't care much about promotion pay etc.

People who like Modi, are you okay with your country’s leader using words like “infiltrators” for a community?
Which country you in now?
US.
If money is your objective, isn't US the best place to be at?
