Not Taken As Seriously As Men

I work in software implementation, which is already pretty male dominated. But I implement this software in large warehouses where there usually are no women. Many places I’ve visited haven’t had a women’s restroom available. I feel like some of these people don’t take me as seriously or they doubt what I tell them because I’m a woman. It’s so frustrating.

Use social signaling. People are visual, so try to research how successful women in your career dress and emulate that. Find the brands and everything else that gives you the air of respect that you demand.

That’s awesome advice. I have gotten more confident over time and I feel like it shows not only in my voice but my body language and overall demeanor. It’s just annoying when you come across one of those men who are convinced women are inferior and nothing can change their minds.

Osha requires bathrooms for both sexes

Generally, the women’s restroom is located in the office area. But I’m usually implementing the software overnight, when the office area is locked. Luckily I can usually talk them into giving me a key while I’m there.

It requires the bathrooms be available. If you don't have access it's a violation. You should report it

Or if they do, it’s locked and they can’t find the key. Or they open it and there’s no TP or hand soap lol. This happens way too often.

My wife worked at a startup where the servers and communication gear was in the women's restroom because the server room was out of space. She left there after one week...

What is software implementation?

This question is dumb. How do you change the mind of millions of ignorant people?!

Being vocal about it I guess. I know it can be tough sometimes. That is why apps like these are so helpful. Companies don't care about equality. They care about PR and will do anything if they realize their public perception is screwed up.

Geez I guess I'm lucky my clients generally had nice offices and at least bathrooms 😂😂

Same here! Not same kind of job but me too was never treated seriously. I almost start to feel like this is kind of toxic environment since it sometimes makes me doubt my capability too. I worked in banking industry where there are tons of women leaders and found that super frustrating in tech industry.
