Recruiter called to tell me I ace’d the interview but that they can’t extend an offer until they interview a diversity candidate as per the “new policy.” Is that legal?
You must not have talked to many recruiters- they won’t even return calls most of the times if they don’t have an offer. What next - recruiter telling you that interviewer A dislikes white ppl and hence noped you?
I am all against forced diversity policies, but why would a recruiter share that much details with a candidate? I don't believe you
I honestly think the recruiter screwed up.
Is it an in-house or third party recruiter?
Read up on the history of race relations in this country. The system put particular groups where they are today. What’s wrong with setting up a system that could help rectify that now?
Because not everyone in those groups got affected by those mistakes of the past. So now you have white kid that lived his whole life in poverty, that cannot get any job because of his supposedly "privilege" , and you have the opposite with black and Hispanics that game the system. Diversity is bullshit feel good. Look at the individual not at a Visible attribute such as color or sexual orientation. Btw, what you proposed is literally racist
I’m all for diversity and equal opportunity. Was just curious if anyone had actually had a recruiter just come out with it...and if it was legal. That’s all.
Which company did you interview with?
FANG
Life is not fair. Suck it up.
Get this statement over email and sue your company for discrimination. Completely illegal to not give you job because you are/aren't from a certain race.. What's next? We can't promote you untill we promote a diversity candidate. This is BS
OP wasn't not given a job because of race. Company just isn't done interviewing yet. There is nothing illegal about that.
How is that not the same thing? Another scenario: two candidates similar skills. OP didn't get the job because the other candidate was "diverse"
What company?
Really curious what company this recruiter was from. Was it us?
Of course not, but I smell bs in your story.
Smell what you must... She told me that I’d have to wait about 6 weeks for them to do that. And that we should keep each other posted in the mean time in case anything changes (I had other deadlines). Initially, I wasn’t taken aback given all the threads here, etc. and I figured it is what it is. But the more I think about it, it is beginning to piss me off.
It might be bullshit, but in 2018 silicon valley I would believe it.
