Been a part of Linkedin for the past 6 years and recently decided to interview at a few places namely Meta, Pinterest, Few Startups and Nvidia. Interviews went well everywhere. Just heard back from Nvidia (software), I seem to be a little confused about weighing between Nvidia and Linkedin. I'd like to weigh them on the following bases. Can I please get some community help on that. 1) Which of the two companies has a brighter future? ( larger market cap opportunity, better moat, etc ) 2) While MS stock/Li have done well in the past, the MS culture is seeping strongly inside Linkedin and Linkedin now is basically another Microsoft. Without going into much details, this has resulted in low pay, extreme chaos and bootlicking. 3) NVIDIA has ridden high with GPU needs for AI model training. Will that sustain or it'll fizzle out like many high riding companies went through. 4) Which of the two companies have better WLB. Don't want to sign up for more than 40hours/week. Not sustainable. 5) What the quality of software engineering talent in Nvidia? 6) Any other angles that I should be looking into ( apart from team specific details ). YOE : 14 Salary : $320K Potential new TC : Not gotten to that stage yet. #software-engineering #microsoft #nvidia #layoffs #meta #wlb #salary
Linkedin is laying off, Nvidia is fueling the AI revolution. Do the math.
What's your level at LI. Also Nvidia is a no brainer
Even if you join at the peak stock price, I’d still choose to leave LI. Take me with you please?
This is a question, really? It all depends on the position and TC, but if all else is equal, this is a no-brainer.
Also, after 6y at LinkedIn that’s your TC? Jump!
I think Nvidia hype will fizzle out but that’s a problem for the future, it’s definitely a place to be right now. LinkedIn is turning into a hell on earth, jump ships if you get the chance.
Can u share ur interview rounds for all companies?
LinkedIn has become $hit. I would recommend leaving. It’s changed a lot and not the same great company with amazing culture, benefits, perks, etc., anymore.
Current Linkeidn employee here, Senior SRE making $320k TC. I’d move to Nvidia if they’d match my comp at my level, but this won’t happen. I’ve gotten offers from them in the past and the comp is about 25% lower at a given level. The equalizer is stock growth. I have friends who joined NVDA at one level above me and making 7 figures now due to stock growth.
IC5 here, My TC is 450K in HW not counting stock appreciation. I am sure Nvidia can beat OPs comp with an IC5 offer easily That’s in band for Sr SDE
I’m a bit confused by your comment, but IC5 is not the same level as Sr SRE (IC4) at LinkedIn, which is why I said it won’t happen to match at my current level. If OP is staff level at LinkedIn (maps to IC5) then they are under paid
Having worked with other big companies, Nvidia struck me as different..less of big company politics, CEO’s emails look less fake, less processed (either the post-processing is so good or it’s indeed written by the CEO ?), layoffs are far and few…but again company is growing and things will obviously change ..hopefully the upper management (which has stuck to the company for a long time) will try to reduce the damage …
