In my SQL round of data science interview, I could arrive at the final answers for all the questions but the interviewer helped me and gave me a lot of hints while coding. I also misinterpreted one of the questions and starting coding. The interviewer corrected my interpretation and I re coded the correct approach. How good are my chances to qualify for the next interview round?
How many hints did you need? Did you lay out your approach before executing the code?
I didn't layout the approach very clearly. I explained while coding.
There was only SQL. No product case.
For Product DS?
My SQL round was only like 20min and the rest was spent on product case studies
How did you prep for the case studies?
Can you tell an example question for the product case studies?
Hi there. I'm also preparing for DS analytic interview at Meta and wanted to ask about the product sense side of the interview. The slightest input would be much appreciated
This was on-site?
From my experience, very little chance. Meta focuses a lot on accuracy n speed. And youâre expected to ask clarifying questions before you start coding.
Hey, ex interviewer here. This is definitely not true on average.
Just gave feedback from my experience. And a lot of the other comments from meta employees support that. And messing up on the clarifying questions and starting coding before is a pretty glaring red flag, not just at meta but most placesâ ds interviews.
SQL for DS? no Python/R/something else?
That's pretty typical for Product DS roles in many big companies (FB, Google, Snap, etc) Python is a bonus but not strictly necessary
Because in a product context, a lot of that stuff is fluff and doesn't provide much value Product sense, influencing XFN, and knowing the right questions to ask are more important for success of a lot of products than being a technical wizard. Why worry about fancy tools when a hammer and screwdriver do the job more efficiently in the right hands? It makes sense to emphasize other technical skills for a number of other DS roles, but not for product.
Same thing happened to me and I passed
Had a similar experience. Wasn't selected
I think they are decent, as long as you were clarifying your approach and assumptions and not stuck at obvious places
I also misinterpreted one of the questions and starting coding. The interviewer corrected my interpretation and I re coded the correct approach.
