For the holidays i got an oculus quest 2 and I find it's cool at first, but becomes annoying to use over time and I want to return it now. I have used the quest headset for productivity, gaming, and watching movies. Here are my thoughts: - productivity: i used immersed VR to get my laptop in VR and get 4 screens loading, which is amazing at first. After ten minutes, I'm exhausted and I can't write notes in a notebook so it doesn't fit with my workflow, so I'll pass on this. - gaming: i tried the Room VR and eleven table tennis. Both were mind blowing at first, but after a few minutes I'm annoyed at how slow everything progresses and how they are generally shallow experiences as you do the same actions repeatedly. - media watching: YouTube VR and 360 videos are my favorite experiences by far, but i find it's an unpleasant experience after 20 minutes and I'd rather use a lightweight headset with my phone where I can take it off easily. The Quest gives me a feeling of being locked in. Overall I think VR is really good for the first few moments of an experience. Like you're studying ancient civilizations so you take a few minutes to tour ruins in VR, and then leave to resume reading or talking to people. That's exciting to me, but that's not the intended use for the majority of VR apps coming out afaik. Given my impressions with the quest 2, I'm doubting the metaverse is a viable concept for most people. Relatedly, VR is inherently an anti social device (ironic coming from a "social" company), and is very awkward to use in a group. Does anyone have different thoughts and has enjoyed using VR long term?
I never used any "modern" VR headset, only the good and old Google Cardboard some years ago But my eyes are constantly dry and irritated because of long screen time, even though I use low brightness, dark mode etc. Still, I'm constantly using eye drops, otherwise it would get worse. I can't help but imagine how bad a VR headset would be for my eyes. That's one of the main reasons for me not to want to get one.
Its possible we see new dry eye cases from VR, but I've heard it's not the screen itself that causes eye damage, but the strain we put on the eye trying to keep it open.
I’ve only gotten eye strain from bad lighting around my screens. Aka stark differences or poor quality bulbs. It could be VR is more optimized and since the it controls all lighting might cause less eye problems.
I've spent hours playing different games. Like pop one or Arizona sunshine and stuff like that. Also long term the headset will get small and lighter and prolly have more AR capabilities as the tech improves which will make productivity stuff much easier and more seamless
Yeah that makes sense. It does seem like we're multiple breakthroughs away from achieving something like that though
Think about the first computer ever made.. clunky, basically useless sketch pad with a calculator
There's actually an interesting blog post from immersed by a guy who actually works full time in VR. Obvs more compatible with certain jobs but still cool. https://blog.immersed.team/working-from-orbit-39bf95a6d385
Wow that's a very interesting take. 4500 hours in VR is certainly a feat
Try Mini Golf game. It is great
Specifically (I’m assuming you mean) Walkabout Mini Golf. An absolute blast with friends. Other social games I play with pals: Real VR Fishing, Demeo, Bigscreen, After the Fall, hell even Rec Room.
Yess. Walkabout Mini Golf it is. I have been super addicted to it. I can play for hours with friends or other random people.
Play real games in Quest 2 instead of watching shitty 360 videos
Try porn. Seriously 🤣
Yes seriously, there is no going back
Yeah. First few times it was so realistic that it was worth it to pay that $399 for a couple of hours experience. It is still a great experience.
Adding as a comment for visibility, In death unchained for rouge like archery, Saints n sinners for zombie campaign, Thrill of the fight for real world boxing experience (remember to take a break between each round to avoid grasping for air), Battle sisters (only if you are into 40k universe) Pistol whip for shooting with music, Township tale for MMORPG like ( art style will grow on you ), After the fall and medal of honor for campaign ( I heard you can do team play, i haven't tried), Blade and sorcery for gore (PC version is much more bloody) Rec room is like roblox it has tons of awesome games (mostly little kids play so... good to have your own team), Skyrim and half life alyx for PC based ( I spent around 15 minutes just staring at the moon in skyrim), obligatory: beat saber, resident evil ( San Andreas on the way) These are some games you should try
It’s just a gaming device, and the extra battery+strap they sell makes it a lot comfier. Echo VR is great.

Do you really feel special in your Tesla?
Honestly the games you played are just garbage, there’s way better ones. It’s like playing Minesweeper, hating it, and then saying PC gaming sucks
Ha that's fair. Are there games you'd recommend? I've heard half life Alyx is good, but I dont have a gaming PC. I've seen some people use cloud gaming to play though
