Offer Decision and Negotiation - NVIDIA DV vs ADI Design

I have two very different offers. One is with NVIDIA: 140k/15k/90k(4-years) for a Design Verification Position in Santa Clara. The second is with Analog Devices: 116k/15k/40k(4-years) for Analog Design Position in Santa Clara. (College Grad) I had already accepted the ADI offer back in December but I wanted to change my domain to computer architecture and that is why still kept applying. I interviewed with NVIDIA for a CompArch position and the DV position got offered only the second one. Now I am confused about which one I should go with. I want to be in computer architecture design but neither of them gives me that. Is there any chance of making a move internally at NVIDIA? I am bad with programming as of yet so I am thinking I can get that experience working with NVIDIA and maybe apply later again, but then I won't be given the advantage of being a college grad. With ADI I can get design experience and maybe try to learn some programming and then make a move to comparch. My second question is about negotiation. ADI offer is fully negotiated as I have accepted it already. Do the NVIDIA numbers look good or is there scope of improvement? How to negotiate in this case? #nvidia #analogdevices #offer #competingoffer #architecture #designverification #newgrad #newgradsalary

Internal transfer in NV is not hard as far as the dst team mgr gives a green-light. Haven’t seen any mgr block his/her team member from transfer afaik Base part can be higher. I think they give ic3+4yoe ~145k base if promoted from ic2 internally. RSU looks ok but can be pushed further.

You may need a compete offer for negotiation. We happen to have very good hr on offer evaluation…

These are completely 2 different domain. Dv position requires good understanding of Oops concept, will heavily rely on c++ and SV programing. Analog design - will be completely different role, with minor programming. If you think - you can pick up programming - go with Nvidia. It opens alot of room in future. Design role - pays low initially but goes high with experience. However, less companies do analog design at the moment. Hope it helps 11 years ago, I had the same choice - i chose DV. Regretted for first year or so.

How about now?

It was good after the 1st year. Awesome right now.

NVIDIA. DV will get you closer to comp arch for sure. And like mentioned from others internal transfer is not hard in NV

Analog is dead end.

I’m an analog guy. If you love money and opportunities more than your “love for analog”(whatever that means), choose DV. Not much innovation in analog these days. It’s a dead end. Not many opportunities. Salaries not par with rest of HW either/let alone SW. obviously if you have an analog design jobs at faangs, you’d be paid decently. But switching jobs in the future is gonna be difficult as there are very few openings.
