Offer Evaluation: Amazon L5 App Sec Engineer
Recruiter has verbally given an offer from Amazon for L5 App Sec Engineer for Toronto, Canada - 230K TC YOE: 6 However, my current TC is already at 230K. Does anyone know the pay range for L5 AppSec Engineer role in Canada?
I would assume about 500k?
No. Generally, security engineers are paid right more than SDEs at the same level. You can see levels.fyi fruit those specifics.
Don’t join. A friend of mine joined for a TC bump and left within a few months. Stuff mentioned above is pretty accurate. Stay away
Hard disagree with other answers. Not at Amazon anymore but I had a great time at the AppSec team. It’s still Amazon so all the PIP crapload. Not half as bad as people say and it opened so many doors for me.

Despite what Blind says, Amazon proved to be a positive asset in my CV. I got plenty of experience with code review and threat modeling at AppSec. Tech interviews were a breeze and I kept a motivated tone all the time.
If it is the same comp I would just stay where you are tbh. Have not heard many good things about Amazon and the folks we get from there are toxic af.
Amazon Security is not a place I'd want to join these days. It's a meat grinder...

Is this true across the entire security org? How is security broken down at Amazon? A recruiter reached out to me and I'm kinda curious. I've heard horror stories about Amazon but if I can get a good comp I might be enticed to deal with the BS for a year or two.
