Hello Blind, I need your help in order to evaluate my offers from both Meta and Uber. Location of the offers are Seattle! Meta (E5) Base: 200k RSU: 800k (25%/y) Sign-On: 100k Bonus Target: 15% TC-1y: 530k TC-2-4y: 430k Uber (5A) Base: 200k RSU: 900k (35%-30%-20%-15%) Sign-On: 80k Cash Bonus: 35k TC-1y: 590k TC-2y: 545k TC-3y: 415k TC-4y: 370k Note: The above TC assumed no equity refreshers, promotion or salary changes during 4 years period. Meta Refreshers: Somewhere between 160-200k for following 4 years. Which impact years 2-4 by 40-50k and increasing it to 2y: 470-480k, 3y: 510-530k, 4y: 550-580k) Uber Refreshers: I don’t have clear data points here, but their documentation state that they maintain my compensation excluding the sign on which is going to be >550k for year 3+. Updated. I prepared myself for 4 weeks. mostly LC to optimize my speed and problem solving, and also watched youtube and self practice for SD. You are right, but Uber has more potential on their stock growth in compare to Meta. Meta today is close to 1T and Uber is 83B.
Meta. The upcoming correction(s) will heavily impact those barely/not profitable.

My Uber interview was very similar to Meta. Two coding, two system design and one behavioral. I had fun and seems very straight forward for me. Their stock has better growth opportunities in my opinion but they didn’t do well in past few years. It is hard to predict that, but we can say that Meta is more stable!
No. Meta refesher is formualaic and the meet all number is 138k. Your projection is a bit high Uber refresher is thought to be less than that although I don’t have any data point Also you should factor in meta has 9k 401k March and best in class health insurance & benefit Uber has espp and ok benefit

Refresher is supposed to normalize your tc to level band + perf. So if you have large grant in the beginning, good perf may not give you good refresher. Conversely if your offer is low, refresher is suppose d to make for it. Meta’s is purely based on perf
slightly better offer from Uber. How about potential for promos? Based on levels.fyi alone I assume it’s easier to get from 5a to 5b than from e5 to e6. Is that true?
That’s true. 5b and 6 are different caliber when it comes to promo eval. Although there is also large overlap in both due to wide band
Uber first two years are better. I talked to manager from both side. The 5A to 5B can be somewhere from 18 months to 24 months. E5 to E6 is a bit unclear as different managers told me different ranges, and seems a bit dependent on your luck. So not super clear, unless you have data point to share from Meta side!

Did you disclose your current level? What title do you have on resume?
I didn’t disclose my level but shared the truth about my scope and responsibility. My resume title is just Software Engineer. Meta has some rules about yoe and level so I got assigned to E5 and Uber first did phone screen and then they said would assigning me for 5A.
I'd say go a bit unconventional and go for Meta E5. Work for a year or two and upskill yourself. Then apply Uber as 5B. I'm pretty sure you can get 5B at Uber but your comp won't increase as much. Uber's compensation strategy seems like it's built for saving for the day and keeping you there short term. When you have a more stable offer like Meta, even if you have a slight decrease in TC still choose that. Afterall think about your outcomes: 1) Chose Meta, if you land in a good area (contact me if you do, our team has very good opportunity), you can grow to E6 in 2 years. Then your base salary would get to 225-230k and your refreshers would get to 220k per year (which means +55k per year), then we're looking at 25k base + 15k bonus + 55k per year TC increase. Which would make your TC 95k more hence you'll be getting 530k+ if this works out. Again if stock performs well you can expect this to be 600k. 2) if you don't land into a good area, or couldn't get promo. your TC relatively stays at 450k worst case. You can still try to interview at Uber and get an offer for 5B that can push 650k+ 3) Go to Uber, if you can get promoted to 5B then it's great but don't expect your TC to go beyond 600k unless stock performs well (and even in that case your existing TC without promo would do well). If you get to 5B, FB will most likely still consider you an E5. In fact Uber's 5B is a unique position industry wide that it pays highest to Sr SWEs so making it harder to switch.
I really appreciate you taking time to write back. This definitely help me a lot as I am evaluating. Question on outcome potentials. Do you think it is possible to go to Uber for 2 years, and interview for E6 at Meta? If not, why ?
A lot of our 5A engineers went to FB as E6.
