YoE: 8 years Location: Austin Texas First time I spoke with recruiter, I gave $120-$130k as approximate range for software engineer role (Level T24-T25). Initially level mentioned was T25, then lowered to T24. (Could it be a lowballing move?) After clearing the interviews I asked if base salary could be raised to $150k. They said they would ask and verify with the hiring manager. Is there a chance my request would be granted? Also did I ask for too much or too less? #offer #tech #paypal #paypalcareers #paypalsalary
What location?
Really depends if they are offering you T24 or T25 - those are two very different salary brackets and roles (senior vs staff engineer). Do you know which one you are being offered in the end? Also PayPal’s salary heavily varies on location and whether or not you are remote- you should add that to this post for people to give you a full answer. The type of software engineering you’ll be doing is relevant as well.
Updated the post. Location is Austin. They initially mentioned T25, then lowered to T24
No harm in asking for more ever, but you might not get 150k base for T24 in Austin. I believe they consider it a lower salary bracket than New York State or California.
There’s no way they’ll give a 150k base for T24
You initially said $130k, but after they met your ask, you asked for $150k?
Before the interview process began, the recruiter wanted a ballpark figure, so I gave them one. But I did mention that once the interviews are done, I would be in a better position to give my salary expectations. So I raised it to $150k.
Lesson learned, never give the first number. Makes it much easier to negotiate if you don’t.
OP, did you got the final offer? I am wondering the what RSUs look like for Austin T25.
YoE. Also T24 is equivalent to what at one of the faang. Not familiar with PayPal levels.
I guess it would be at Amazon L4 or Google L3
Really? I thought T24 is more of L5. How on earth is it L4? All new grads at Amazon start at L4.
