Amazon L6 - Greenfield Project - 550k Y1 | 520k Y2 (Weird vesting / bonus, basically 520k cash first year, cash phases out and you get stock) Salesforce PMTS - Data Security - 280k base | 600k stock/4yr | 20% bonus + 100k signon (486/yr + sign on) Linkedin Staff - Infra - 250k base | 780k stock | 15% bonus + 75k sign on (482.5/yr + sign on) Waymo - L5 - 200k base | 450k stock (or 990k if you believe 409a multiplier) | 15% bonus + 30k sign on (~375k or ~510k depending on how you "value" the stock) Current TC: 530k, E5, 10 YOE I know I will likely take a cut, Facebook is not for me. On a cultural scale from Facebook to Google (worked there previously) I'm 100% Google, and the blitzscale culture of facebook leads to many issues. I'm looking to minimize TC regression, but am otherwise comfortable, live on about 50% of my Salary and bank stock. Ultimately I want to work on quality systems, want to grow my impact, and work on tough technical challenges.
congratulations on your offers. you forgot to put the most important information for your question: what are you trying to maximize (tc, wlb, career growth, etc)?
All of the above :) I want a bit more balance than FB, which is TC and (maybe) career growth, but terrible WLB. This kinda disqualifies Amazon but leading a greenfield team I would have some latitude to define the culture (obviously within amazon bounds).
Culture is very hard to define at Amazon given the weird hiring bar at lower levels and micro managing by the SDMs.
What you mean by Facebook is not for me? And 100% Google?
Methodical with a bias for quality. Facebook everyone is driven on short term gains to the detriment of the system.
You are going to be seeing even worse behavior in Amazon in most teams. I have spent quite a bit of time in Amazon and it is way more top down
Waymo is super cool and Google culture is better. Congrats on so many offers.
Same exact thoughts about Facebook as you. Just accepted an offer at Apple that’s on par with the numbers you listed. Good luck in whatever you choose!
Google offer is just 375 for first year ? Why don’t google match others
They have a 409a valuation which is the lower number. They have the valuation at last round of funding which is the higher. So they are giving me an offer based on the latter so it technically "matches".
Will they buy back the stock at the higher value?
How did you archive offer in multiple area? Data security at salesforce, infra at LinkedIn, ai at waymo?
I'm a distributed systems / infra engineer with experience in databases, metaprogramming/compilers, ML platforms with a degree with ML specialization. Of the last 3 teams I've been on the systems were a minimum 1M QPS, currently in the billions. Security team I was straight up, I can build a scalable system but had little direct experience, but their challenges are currently scaling. It sounds sexier than it is, infra is 10% building new shit, 90% migrating the old shit. If nothing changes, you were successful and people question the impact.
Then why put figures for comparison?
Because blind is TC or GTFO
You need to know what you want to do rather than just consider offers.?.
Data Infrastructure currently. Previously Data infra, before that ML infra, before that data infra.
excluding amazon, i would choose the company that you had the best vibes with during your interviews and who you felt was the smartest/most talented.
Straight up, Amazon excites me the most but I'm scared of Amazon.
dm me if you want to chat in detail
