Hey Blinders, Promotion got delayed due to manager transitions and re-orgs so I decided to LC and get my promotion and raise.... Considering three offers this weekend. Tryin to gauge company futures, WLB, growth... the works. DoorDash: E5 | 210k cash, 195k RSU - Pros: - Public company; easy to liquidate RSUs to cash on vesting - Concerns: - Feels like the restaurant delivery space is crowded and is currently in a race to the bottom - Profitability will continue to suffer as more gig workers demand more pay/benefits - Wanting to get back to hybrid 2 in 3 out remote work - Questions: - How is WLB? - How is career growth potential? Either up IC track or transition to SDM/TPM? Instacart: L5 | 215k cash, 215k RSU - Pros: - Currently private but IPO bound - Vibe I got was it was a start-up mentality but trending towards more standards - Full remote, work anywhere - Concerns: - Another delivery service... similar problem to DD? - Questions: - How is WLB? - How is career growth potential? Either up IC track or transition to SDM/TPM? - How are promotions? I think I'm a high L5, low L6 in terms of instacart so I'd like to target a 'quick' promotion... Cruise: L5 | 225k cash, 150k RSU, Possible 30% additional cash based on performance - Pros: - Cash based performance bonus - 80-100k refreshers/yr - Biggest upside if it works and they scale - Full remote, work anywhere - Concerns: - Unknown chance of IPO/liquidation events - Method for AV makes me question ability to scale beyond hubs (no intrastate travel) - Questions: - How is WLB? I feel like this will be the worst WLB - How is career growth potential? Either up IC track or transition to SDM/TPM? - For Cruise employees: Do you actually think they stand a chance at being the leader in AV? Current: L5 | 6/9 YoE | 165k cash 45k RSU... nice WLB? #engineering #software #swe #cruise #doordash #instacart #offers
No way that’s a SWE offer at DD for E5. The cash looks right, but your RSUs should be closer to 800k
maybe he means per year?
He should shoot for 800k RSUs per year. If he gets it, that’d be insane.
If you decide to join DoorDash, ask for 1million RSUs
10 million. Then it’ll be worth 1 million when they vest.
Dude you killed it 💔💔💔
Instacart doesn’t have good wlb
Do you think we have ⁉️ 😂😂😂
Very team dependent, some folks only work 3 hrs a day.
Does Instacart adjust pay for remote locations?
Yes
There is no more upside in DD for the amount of hrs you'll put in. It's low-ball for E5.
Instacart valuation is a joke. Discount by 75 percent
Is it 40billion now?
Yeah, 39b it looks like. Why is it a joke? Honestly not sure how valuations work lol
A majority of people at Cruise get the 30% bonus FYI (you can ask your recruiter for specific numbers). That’s an extra ~$70k over the other offers….. IMO Cruise is a clear winner.
Money wise it feels like it — biggest concern is the odds of success. Will their tech limit them to high traffic hubs? Is it possible to expand to rural locations. Then again, is that a problem if it’s limited to high pop hubs?
Honestly if you’re worried about the prospects of each company’s future, they all have their own issues. Cruise - AVs is a difficult problem, so much so, that many have gone bankrupt in an attempt to solve it. We’re 99% of the way there but that last 1% takes 99% more work. Doordash/Instacart - low margins, Doordash employee are expensive, not profitable. Just judging from Blind reviews, it seems like they all have culture issues. Pick your poison (hint; pick the one with the highest cash comp).
Thoughts on Cruise 1) I think we're definitely top3. There is An actual deployment of a driverless taxi to the public. 2) WLB - we're pre revenue, so you know the pressure is on. Said that, many in leadership are conscious about burnout and try to support vacations, etc. This is very team specific, so make sure to ask hard questions in your follow up call. 3) there will be more details on liquidation events in a couple of weeks - leadership said upside and liquidity and more info by end of Q1. 4) growth is fairly good, especially if this next year goes well. Rapid expansion will cause more hiring and with more team, more opportunities. 5) bonus is guaranteed 30%, (x 1.25 or 1.5. Based on performance) Feel free to DM
+1 WLB is very dependent on team. Most teams are very bad - I’m on prod eng and lot of leadership churn, new leaders are clueless and act as puppets to senior leadership without knowing tech debt on the ground. CEO leaving is very bad sign. GM has too much control. We may do ride sharing in few major cities and focus on providing self driving tech to personal vehicles. GM will try to compete with Tesla. Most ppl get 30% bonus like 60-70% and 1.25/1.5x is very low % about 10-15% only Hiring is capped and not growing a lot atleast in 2022 hopefully things change in the future.
Is cruise remote friendly?
Really strong IC offer - did you negotiate hard for it? Or is that what our new L5 offers are?
They said I was just below the L6 expectations. Instacart was one of my early interviews so I wasn’t as polished as I could have been. If I went today I don’t think L6 would be unrealistic.

Everything seems great with this guy, except basic attraction. What to do? My friends say it’s no big deal
Don’t join DD. You will regret it. There are some companies that you should never join. 1. Amazon 2. DoorDash 3. Splunk
Preach.
1. Obvious 2. Why? 3. Why?
