YOE: 5-6 Location: NYC Uber: senior engineer 5a ~$415k TC (excluding sign on) ~$235k cash (base + annual bonus) ~$178.8k RSUs ($715k over 4 yrs) also offers ESPP (15% discount, $25k max per year) Stripe: senior engineer L3 ~$450k TC (excluding sign on) ~$235k cash (base + annual bonus) ~$215k RSUs (annual value grant) Both offer very similar sign ons. Comes to ~$31k difference per year including sign on. I'm leaning towards Uber as I prefer reasonable WLB and I think the 4 yr grant has better upside potential than Stripe IPO (due to already 100B valuation & annual value grants limiting upside), but wanted to get insight from Blind community and current employees at Uber or Stripe! Uber + 4 yr grant, potentially big upside post COVID + seems like better WLB + interesting team & tech (language is Go/Java) + offers ESPP - less TC on paper - more established, less interesting problems & impact? - not as good office perks / food? will be in new NYC office Stripe + better TC on paper + potentially big IPO, but annual value grant limits upside + less established, more interesting problems & impact? + slated to create new NYC office on par with SF/Seattle in terms of perks - seemed like WLB wasn't as good, but not horrible either - team seems OK, language is mostly Ruby/Sorbet, but slowly moving to Java - annual value grant limits RSU upside to 1 yr #uber #stripe #offer #nyc
Isn’t stripe office on Staten Island?
no, as far as I know it will be in Manhattan but they haven't finalized exactly where. used to be a WeWork in Manhattan pre COVID
Stripe’s stock vesting gimmick is trash, don’t support this new trend
you work at Amazon, earth's most toxic company. Why are you supporting the trend? Put your money where your mouth is.
Already left, old account
Stripe will IPO soon
According to who? They haven't given any indication that they plan to IPO any time soon.
Once their S1 is filed.
Does Stripe have extra equity grant like yearly refresh? If not the number is significantly smaller than Uber. A decent company shouldn’t include non-guaranteed numbers into initial TC.
I think you get the baseline annual grant indefinitely. Then additional refreshes are the same way. E.g., if you have a 100k annual grant and a 20k refresh, your stock going forward will have a 120k baseline.
Stripe does offer refresh, but must exceed expectations and they couldn't provide any ranges. Uber also could not provide ranges on refresh, so I left out refreshers in the comparison.
strongly encourage you to pick based on team and manager in this case. ive heard cases of both awesome and terrible teams at both places and that will imoact your happiness more than the diff between the two close offers
What part of Uber will you work for? Have you met with managers/teams from both?
Eats, and yes I've met with both teams. I can DM details
I don't know much about eats personally (I'm in freight). But I really liked my manager I met with before going Uber which sealed my decision, and I'm happy at Uber. I'd suggest putting heavy weight on which manager/team seemed best
can you share the signon info as well?
OP, have you made the decision? I have an offer from Uber nyc too, and would like to hear your update.
How much was the sign-on at stripe? Just got verbal offer
What’s the offer?
Didn't uber lay off 3k people
Yea but that was due to covid. We look to the future not the past.
yes but I don't believe engineering was majorly impacted, wasn't it mostly support? TBH I'm not concerned as they have weathered the storm
