Offer evaluation: Electronic Arts (EA)

Both tech roles (non-SWE) Disney (Current) Salary: 151k Bonus (discretionary and unreliable): up to 20% Union benefits (pension/healthcare): ~15k TC: 166k-196k depending on the bonus EA Salary: 142k Target bonus: 15% equity: 122.5k over 3 years Sign on bonus: 10k TC: 204k I’ve already negotiated up with EA and those are the max numbers. The hitching point for me is the bonus. How reliable are the target bonuses at EA? And how easily can a high performer bump their numbers? Since my base salary would actually go down, I’ll be relying in that bonus to come through to make the difference, and praying that the stock doesn’t take a dive. Thanks all!!

Don’t go for bonus . And if Disney Union guarantee 15k pension .. that’s your safety net

Yeah that’s my hitching point. It’s stable and reliable, and the bonus we get every couple of year is icing. But the max ceiling is lower

Thanks for the votes! Anyone willing to share their reasoning behind their vote would be much appreciated

I would say EA, purely because of the culture and also room for growth. Disney/ABC usually outsource a lot of the workload. EA on the other hand will provide you opportunity and also long term stability. BTW are you joining a studio or EA itself?

One of the studios. So theoretically less stable, but it’s one of their evergreen titles.

I’ve worked with both and my general impression is the EA folks we’re having a better time. Both have had recent layoffs.

Bonus depends on studio. Sports typically performs well and you hit the targets. Other studios seem to he hit/miss

Can you help me with a referral for EA?

EA ImsX88 May 24, 2023

Been through good years and bad years on studio teams and central teams… have never seen a high performer get less than 100% bonus. It’s never guaranteed. If you’re willing to be more direct about which Studio/title, someone may be able to chime in with specifics.

I think a lot of people got avg 80 this year, my 5 years avg is 125 so hard to say, but looking at the blind posts in EA about the bonus this year it seems less. Also for the teams where they promote from SEI to SEII just based on time and not performance the bonus is usually not 100 or above because they are competing against people who are doing much a lot more than them on the same level.
