Hi All- I have an offer for a tech role from Amazon, but I’m hearing a lot negative points about that team and org and apparently it is a really stressful team. Currently, I have a very stable job and can spend enough time with my infant. I have to relocate to Seattle and I’m confused and concerned wether to accept that offer or not:( My only hope is that I may be able to transfer to other teams if things won’t work. Any advice would be appreciated.
My advice is if you are hearing it's stressful, then you can expect to be expected to work your ass off and you'll probably have less time with your kid initially, especially since you will have no vaca and PTO. I'll let other Amazonians comment on the transfer process as I'm not familiar with it.
Which team?
You will not be able to move internally soon enough. So be careful.
I read here that people change teams. So is there a time limit?
There’s no time limit. You can switch team on day 2, but better have a good reason
Depends where you get that feedback from, if it’s blind it’s probably whining college grads who’ve never had a real job.
Some of the former team members. All left within few months!
Uh no! Stop being you judgemental with clubbing everyone as a whining college grad
Ask to talk to team members directly for honest feedback
If the offer is good and if you think amazon is better than your current company I think you should take the offer . You can easily transfer to another team in 6 months or even earlier than that if you don’t like the team
What team?
Blind distorts the reality of stressful teams the way an anorexic teenager distorts their thighs. Transferring happens all the time and there are hundreds of teams hiring all the time so I don't think you have anything to worry about
