Current Facebook TC: ~$130k w/ $105k base, $10.5k bonus, $14.5k equity. Offer from The Pokemon Company International (TPCi): $115k base, $8k signing, discretionary bonus I've spoken to folks who work at TPCi and they say that in the 5-10 years they've been there, the bonus has ranged from 20-40% and has always been paid out every year. Pros of taking offer: Career growth opportunities, more technical team (I'm a data analyst on a Learning and Development Ops team and my manager has never written a line of SQL or Python), slightly higher comp (probably in the range of +$5k-$10k once Facebook's increased wellness benefit and 401k match in 2022 are taken into account), "Senior" in my title, which shouldn't matter but does. Cons: Adding 3 hours a week of commute time once we're back in office (M, T, Th in-person at Bellevue office), lower 401k match (half of 6% but applies to bonus AND base), no wellness/petcare/eldercare benefit. I've been at Facebook for 3.5 years and been at the IC3 level the whole time. 4 Meets Alls and 1 Exceeds Expectations. Not expecting IC4 next PSC for a host of reasons. I feel like I'm out of excuses not to make a change, but should I? If anyone has worked at TPCi, I'd also love to hear what your bonuses have been historically. #FacebookSalary #ThePokemonCompanySalary
This is a tough call. Are there internal options at FB that would Position you for more success in terms of attaining IC4?
Potentially but I've failed 5 internal loops over the last year and I'm tired of trying. Also, I can only move into a new role at the IC3 level and from there it's at least another 6 month performance cycle (likely 2) before I will probably level up.
I see. My $0.02 would be to turn the offer down and get an offer for a more senior role with better comp and purview—and in the meanwhile, coast at FB while training for interviews. Doing a lateral to Pokémon will be a temporary relief to you at a personal level, but you will likely find yourself in a similar place professionally: starting over, having to prove yourself, learn a new job, etc
I thought OP was talking about Niantic.lol
I can’t speak for all of TPC but I observe some WLB issues from the folks I’ve had to work with there.
hey! Just seeing this. Mind sharing what teams you've worked with at TPCi? Also, how's Niantic? haha
Brand partnership teams exclusively. Niantic is good but is challenging if you work directly on PGO, data science here seems less hectic compared to server or client eng roles. Feel free to DM if you want referral, we have a couple DS roles listed on our openings.
