I did not mention the fact that I left my last job during interview and this has backfired on me, now that my offer has been withdrawn after I told their legals I had actually quit several months ago during on-boarding. I have high professional standard at work but in this particular case, I just felt having a gap on my resume was bad and chose not to be direct about it. The company is a true tier-1 HFT shop, for those who are in the business, am I blacklisted forever by this org? #trading #HFT TC 170k (not in the US)
Why does it matter? How long is the gap? If it is just a couple months who cares?!
Thanks, I didnt think it was all that important, I only wanted to bypass the HR and then be honest at the proper background check stage. But the conflicting msg has made them to believe im a dishonest person.
The gap was 2 months counting from interview time.
Adverse action on your record. Unlikely they’d ever hire you in the future. Now you know, learn and move on.
Thanks. I learnt the lesson the hard way
Investment world is super conservative, especially since they’re at high scrutiny from regulators and their investors. Sorry but you’ll never get a look in again. It’s not worth the risk for them. Only way back is if you become super well known in the industry in some specialized role and you’re able to make them mega money. Then they’ll bother to make it happen.
Thanks I truly made the wrong call here.
Normally this is a no big deal in the tech world. Like legal wouldn't necessarily know or care what you told during interviews, and only raise an issue if THEY have a problem with you having quit already. Very surprising.

I think there is more to this than meets the eye. Why were you talking to legal during onboarding? To answer your question, yes. If legal was involved, then it is a serious matter. You will be blacklisted.
Thank you for your feedback. Legal involvement was part of the procedure to deal with non-compete. Because they were under the impression I was still working, they wanted to bring up the legal team to help with my case, (ie, void non-compete since i was going to go to a completely new market). During the conversation, i said my non compete actually started a few months back ...because I had already quit.
