Teams is equally terrible. I have coworkers who post inane fluff in the team's Team channel ("My son just got an A in math!" Uh, cool, man.) but then also personally tag me with important tasks instead of contacting me directly. ("Hey, you need to edit this file by tomorrow," sent to everyone but only meant for me.) So muting only goes so far because these idiots don't understand what an appropriate audience is.
They do it to keep your lazy as accountable have you ever thought of that
(a) you're implying I'm lazy and (b) have you ever thought about signal to noise ratios?
Me making throwaway joke channels
I had the same problem when we first purchased slack and had to move everything that was email/gapps/etc. over to slack. But after we got official training from our internal enablement team, I really loved how flexible slack is. You can control exactly what constitutes a ping in every channel, in every grouping of channels, and even what can ping you on mobile vs desktop. When you combine this granular level of control with emoji style responses (instead of a million pings that are just folks saying āokā) you can really reduce your time spent ācheckingā for updates. Finally if you pivot your team to async work, you can really setup long blocks of time (4-6 hours) where your brain can focus and flow without fear of missing some essential notification. @apple yall are a big enough account that you can probably request specialized enablement for you team/org. Or reach out to me via a DM and I will show you how to configure everything in a demo system.
Really putting the sale in Salesforce š«”
Haha, maybe I should move from engineering to the sales team! But this is my honest opinion.Slack is the best acquisition we have made in years, and it genuinely changed how I work from day to day. I am currently stuck using only teams and outlook, and Its making me feel crazy!
I really like the slack once u mute the useless or non important channels. I literally find and all the issues related solutions in the some slack groups. It helps me work remotely. Saved me from pinging all the the PPL around.
I don't mind the channels so much, they're easy to mute .. all the dm groups are easy more annoying and I can never find the right dm group to respond to once it drops from active dm groups Eventually they just turn into more slack channels because too many people need to be involved

Never found a friendlier and more tech savvy communicator like slack before. Itās done brilliantly. Also slackbot integrations and slack workflows are amazing. Recently I discovered that you can open multiple sub windows by cmd+enter and felt embarrassed about not knowing it before.
If there is one thing I can't stand about messaging apps, it is this: "Hey" "How are you?" ~"I'm well, how are you?" "Good" "I wanted to ask you something?" "How do I complete X?" 6 messages and 5 notifications that could have been 1.
That's what I hate. Get interrupted and then and then I sit and watch the person type the actual question.
When someone says "hey" in a messaging app, be kind to them and respond with "nohello.net".

Do y'all not know how to mute channels? Our slack org is packed with tons of dumb, redundant channels. Why do we need multiple engineering announcement channels? Just mute the channels that ping you as it happens and within a few days your slack is fairly clean. Pairing with people at my company leads me to believe literally no one does this and just raw dogs slack every day and hope for the best.
