I got a call from an Okta recruiter and got super confused from his description about the differences between Principal and Staff engineering roles at Okta. I am not sure if Okta's principal is as high of a title as it is in VMware? Or as low as it is in Microsoft for example? Can anyone clarify?
Okta's Principal is like VMware's Staff Engineer
So there is no septate Staff titles in Okta?
There is a Staff Engineer. But the assignment has been arbitrary. So you have some Okta Staff who are at VMware Staff level and some who should just be Senior. Principal is a pretty big jump in VMware, so it's more equivalent to Architect/Sr Architect here.

Which company makes the best AI?
In what way is MS principal a low title? Overall, principal or higher is 2.5% of the company.
VMware Principal is more like TF or DE in Microsoft, there are a handful of them in the whole company. Microsoft principals are way more 2.5% for sure!
Principal SDE or more is 15% MSFT. Now.
