I signed a job offer and filled out the info for a background check. I’m currently waiting for it to pass to submit my 2 weeks. In order to start at the beginning of next month, my background check needs to pass by Thursday morning which would means I would only be able to provide a one week notice. Is that enough? Where are you going?
Vanguard
Welcome to Vanguard!
I accepted an offer at JPM and it stated clearly I need to give a month. Did your signed offer say the same? If it did the question is what are the repercussions of violating the contract you signed
A month is required for 603 which I’m assuming you are. I don’t know what it is for 601
0 days required notice for a 602 and below.
Don’t apply for notice before you are 100% good to go for the next role. Shit happens. I would encourage you to even just start the next role while being on PTO from the last one. 2 week notice is just a formality.
This has me worried too but I’m going to another stable financial company
Doesn’t matter. I’ve seen it happen so many times at both stable and not stable companies. Contract expires, new leadership direction, org was laid off, whatever reason. At the end of the day you will be left shuffling to find a new role or beg to stay at the last place. I’d go as far as to even just work both roles for the “notice period”. Most places don’t expect much from you when you are leaving and most places expect very little while you are onboarding.
I assume you’re at will so you don’t owe any length of notice
You can tell the new company you won't be able to give 2 weeks until the background check passes. Personally I would just be overemployed for a week.
I had to give one month notice when I was at another job and transitioning to VG. I had a severance date that I needed to wait for and no way I was letting that amount of money go. I didn’t get into specifics when accepting my offer at Vanguard, but let them know I had to wait. They understood.
Give the 1 month of you are required to ...use up your vacation
Unused vacation is paid out. I don’t need to worry about this
Which role at Vanguard? Subdivision? Is 140k base?
How much notice would you get if you were laid off?
LOL. This!
Exactly. I was laid off with a 2AM email once. Use at will employment to your benefit unless you care a lot about burning bridges with your manager/team.
