Options as a Firmware Engineer - 14 YoE

Reason for switch : Underpaid (232 TC) also level (L4) Location: MTV Okay, so it was my desperation to join Google that I didn't negotiate hard (was new to Bay area) while converting from contractor to FTE. Also, I didn't perform exceptionally well in my interviews maybe that's why they downgraded my level to L4. But when looking at the number of hours I am working (60+ hrs/week on average), I would be making much more even as contractor!! Looking to switch what could be my options? Not willing to relocate. FWIW - (honestly speaking) I am major contributor witin the team and my manager is aware of it. Thanks in advance!

That's good TC already. Pretty sure you can work less and not get demoted.

Have you tried expressing the exact same thoughts to your manager? He or she might pull some strings to keep you. But itโ€™s probably time to start LCing and interviewing at Facebook, Netflix etc.

OP is a firmware engineer, Facebook and Netflix are not where You want to be in that space. Embedded product companies are the best bet, Apple, Amazon etc.

Facebook is working on a lot of software-defined networking stuff (basically directly competing with Cisco), I think there would be some firmware positions open there. I thought Netflix may be doing something similar but I could be totally wrong here.

Thanks guys, not sure about Netflix but Facebook can be an option especially Oculus and Building 8. I am not sure how the Facebook stock will hold in coming years though!! Thought Amazon could be an option but wary their work culture, don't want to end up in similar situation again..

And you think FB will be better? ๐Ÿ˜‚ sorry to break it to you, they are all the same.
