Optiver vs IMC SWE New Grad
Hey Everyone, I've been lucky enough to get a new grad SWE offer from both IMC and Optiver, and I'm not sure which one I should take. Some details about the two companies are that the first-year pay is approximately the same, but I believe that the upside on the Optiver offer is much higher if you are a top performer. Also, I'm not too sure about the growth rate of salaries (which I think is more important) for the average employee at either. They each said a little about the year 2 salaries, and it's the same thing where the salaries are pretty similar, but if you are a top performer, Optiver will outpay by a lot. The work-life balance of IMC is better, and the hours are probably around 9 - 6 or maybe even a bit shorter, and Optiver would likely be a bit more like 8-6 pretty consistently. I know a lot about the IMC culture and know that it is amazing, but not too sure about the culture at Optiver for SWEs. One thing that might be important is that at IMC I’d say that I have about a 50% chance of working in C++ but at Optiver its completely random what I would work on, and I would rather learn C++ for exits into other trading firms in the future. If anyone knows a lot about these two companies, I would love to chat and ask more about them.

From what I have heard optiver has better tech than imc and more opportunity for growth. If I were you I would go with optiver

TC for both is abt 330 for first year then don't really know about any growth details at IMC, but optiver is said to be around 100-150 marbles by 5 years.

Can you share more about IMC layoffs? Was that global or a specific office?

I've interviewed at both places. I can't tell you which is better to work for as I've only worked for one of them. I can tell you that Optiver has better comp transparency internally. You have your level, your performance rating and the marble value so you know exactly what to expect. IMC didn't seem to have such transparency.
What's the first year package look like for senior role. I heard there is no marbles for first year
