Oracle Cloud

Yes, they pay a lot. But do they have a future since Microsoft is roaring through cloud growth and so is AWS and to a good extend Google? Will it be a good move for the long term for a non-junior person?

Oracle US$0.02 Feb 7, 2018

No it wont be top 3, and that’s okay

Microsoft bye fukers Feb 8, 2018

Or top 5

Oracle US$0.02 Feb 8, 2018

Sure

Amazon sde3 Feb 7, 2018

It all depends on your goal.

Oracle ?!?!?! Feb 7, 2018

Why do you care if it will have a future or not? Azure is roaring according to you. How much are you making? Know what question to ask. It matters little how the product is doing. It matters a lot how much you are making. If you are worried about job security, msft and oracle are no different in that regard.

Microsoft igf OP Feb 7, 2018

Very good points. What matters is what I end up making. Question is if I will keep making that much at Oracle in the long term. Or will they just call it quits and lay off all those highly paid employees after three or four years

Microsoft nole Feb 7, 2018

Nobody knows. That is the risk you gotta take.

Microsoft richardhea Feb 7, 2018

Not really. It’s a matter of time before the cloud business becomes a low margin commodity. There is nothing that Oracle does better than the major players. That will turn their cloud in a bottomless money pit and lead to its demise. 🍆

Microsoft Yuk Feb 7, 2018

You are right. But the employees there already made a lot more money. If they need to find another job in 3 years, it is OK.

Oracle US$0.02 Feb 7, 2018

Iaas is race to bottom. Saas is nothing more than different delivery model. Oracle and msft can co exist, like they do now. Regardless, oci has legs for at least 4 years for sweet sweet rsu to vest.

Oracle Tushtush Feb 7, 2018

Oracle cloud only next 2 years and all will let go

Let’s rub this way. Orcl is in 40s for past 5 years. I am sure that makes you and others very happy. Good luck bro making bmc and race to the bottom (of profitability) and filling up Ellison pockets.

Microsoft richardhea Feb 7, 2018

So if we filter out the troop rallying propaganda, your post can be summed up: we got nothing, we hope to fleece our old customers again, but so far it’s not going so well. 🍆

Google iegb37 Feb 7, 2018

He can buy stock with the leftover

Amazon bqsP01 Feb 8, 2018

Why do you care about the company... we all are just employees... job security in all international Organisation are high. Oracle makes profits every quarter on cloud and they also have there own applications that runs on their own cloud... Bro what you need to do is to evaluate the role and your total comp and make your decision. Cloud business will grow in all companies and there will be new more players in the market. At the moment we all just touching the base.

Microsoft igf OP Feb 8, 2018

For those who went to OCI from Azure,AWS,GCP, would you have gone if Oracle had offered only a normal raise (say 15%)?

Oracle US$0.02 Feb 8, 2018

f@ck no. Its a moot point though, we all got hefty bump

Oracle x(dnrje3 Feb 9, 2018

15% isn't typically enough for any change. It couod slow you down too due to ramp-up.

Oracle x(dnrje3 Feb 9, 2018

There is room in the skies for multiple clouds. If you look at the marketing literature, they target different segments and are priced accordingly.
