The crazy hours are really getting to me. I've been working more than 12 hours a day every day and working every weekend. Meanwhile working in the bay area means I have friends who make a similar amount without breaking their backs... Seriously considering moving to a tech company to do finance related work there instead. I've had my fair share of working at KPMG and can honestly say that I'm over it...I'm so jealous of these bay area people not working 60+ hours and somehow managing better benefits. Is it time to switch to a tech company?
Same. I left a role where I was putting in countless hours and weekend and now get 40% more while working 40 hrs max.
Big 4 are same everywhere. Engineers at big 4 easily put 50-60 hours in FANG except G (also team dependent). WLB starts if you move out of big 4
Big4 here means Pwc, EY, KPMG and Deloitte- the consulting Big4
I know. I meant Big-4 of any industry has poor WLB
Seriously. Big 4 is far different world.
If you’re feeling overworked and you don’t have economics or promotion on the line, it’s worth at least starting the conversation and doing coffee chats with folks in FAANG
I think if you don't see yourself in professional industry too long, it's best to leave Big4 after 3~4 years. The more you stay, more you are stuck. Look at your partner and imagine if you want to be like one of them. If not, get out lol
So true... I’m done with PwC, looking for ways out as well.
ISO..offering an alternative to the big4.. message me to chat
Think not just of your immediate next job but also 10+ years down the road. If you’re finance in Tech you are fully back office and not strategic at all. It can be chill but that chill comes with a price over the long run.
Working long hours is just an unfortunate nature of working at the big 4 accounting firms it seems. I personally haven’t worked over 60 hours a week during the time at one of the big 4 firms but granted it was in their risk advisory practice. I agree with other comments here that if you don’t see yourself in the industry for too long, probably not bad to look elsewhere now. I did have an interview with faang before and yes their proposed compensation and benefits were much higher.
Which faang company?
