I suppose I am a rare breed. I was put on PIP late last year and took the option to improve. I worked for the next 33 days on the plan and met most, not all, of the measurements. My manager then failed me. I appealed and then won the appeal. If you are going thru the same and want advice feel free to reach out. #severance #layoff

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Congrats! What org? How did you win PIP?
Did you have an input on setting the measurements? Can you share any tips there?
now get promoted and pip your manager
it’s not that easy. going from pip to getting promoted would mean multiple years and supportive managers that submit data on the progress. easier to lc and gtfo. congrats OP!
Not possible. He going to be force to leave the team and put in another team. The new manager will PIP him again. Good luck.
Bravo! Good job on showing top leadership that it’s not you, it’s the manager that’s the problem
Was your manager an ex colleague who had a vendetta against you?
Doesn’t have to be. They just try to meet the quota. So they set unrealistic goals so that you can fail. And nit pick on things to justify.
If this is Amazon, I am surprised you won with an imperfect result. Would be interested to hear more.
Congrats. That is impressive to say the least.
I’ve seen this happen once. It’s rare but if you have solid documentation and reasonable justification… it’s worth appealing
Had my manager tell me PIP was a success then immediately after tell Hr it was a failure. Shitty backstabbing behavior. Worst part being they had another recent hire immediately before me also get fired within a year. Honestly failing two people in a row then lying to your employee to cover your own ass seems extremely shady and definitely not something which inspires confidence in the company.
Nope this is not how it works. Your manager told your PIP was a success and he was right. Later his manager forced him to change as they were looking headcount to PIP. You were target and your manager forced by his manager to say you fail the pip. Sad story but true.
Congratulations, OP. Now it's time to move on to another group or company as your manager will likely PIP you again.
Experiences I’ve had would be when you get PIPed they already decided to fire you. No way to come back from that. Find a different team asap. In fact if I was running a company I’d make it mandatory to move teams because the salty ass manager doesn’t deserve an employee that works their ass off to come back from a PiP.
If I was running a company, I would fire the manager on the spot “with cause” if they unjustly put anyone under them on pip. I will make sure such people don’t qualify for unemployment benefits. I wish more companies start holding managers accountable and set examples out of such terrible people who play games with the livelihood of their subordinates.
.. appeal ? Which company is this ?
🍌
There’s never a real appeal. PIPs are just a formality to say they tried to make things work.
