How does the PIP policy work at Facebook? Is it as brutal as Amazon in terms of mass hire and mass fire?
No pip at all
That’s not true, we have process around poor performers just like every company. I’ve worked with HR to define a plan for what needs to happen for a person to demonstrate that they can grow or to decide if we must terminate their employment. I’ve had people improve and stay, not improve and get fired, or just decide to leave on the own. We may not label it PIP but we do manage our low performing employees.
one thing is for sure, we don't have prepip programs like pivot. and it is difficult to place an employee on pip without a history of underperformance.
Is it easier for E5 external hires to get piped ? I've read here that E5+ are expected to perform from Day 1 as any other employee. Lack of ramp up time and familiarity of the product can definitely make it harder for external E5 compared to E4 who's been there for few years and knows about the process better?
day 1 is bootcamp so no. ofcourse there's ramp up time. the people who fail (while generally rare) show an unwillingness to learn
There are not expected to meet the bar from day 1. The rough rule is a half for ramp up per level after e4. You CAN get PIPed if your trajectory is bad. If your manager doesnt think you're on track to meet the bar within a reasonable time period, they dont need to wait
