Should I move to Amazon?
I was reached out by a Meta recruiter for a SWE position. I was not really looking for a job, but I decided to take it for practice, and who knows if the offer was right, I would take it! I did the interview. I was able to do the first question, which was trivial. For the second/third questions, I struggled and rambled my way through. I literally had no idea how to do the last addition to the question. I was rattled and embarrassed. Even though I came in with low expectations, no one wants to look dumb. But during it all I smiled, tried to ask good questions, was a little self deprecating, and generally pleasant. I still walked out feeling like I had 0 shot of moving on, no big deal life goes on. I forgot about it. Come to find out Iāve been advanced to onsite. The point being, even when it feels all is lost in an interview, try to keep your composure, accept any hints with genuine gratitude, and you might catch a break. I realize this is just a first round, but as someone who is horrible at leetcode, lacks confidence in interviews, and honestly thought I humiliated myself, I take this as a big win. I have no expectation for on site again, but weāll see if I can work the magic once more Yoe: 3 Tc 100 (NOT AMAZON ANYMORE)
They ask 3 questions in one interview?
They werenāt all totally separate from each other. The first question was literally a joke as in if you couldnāt do it youāve never heard of data structures
What was itš
Ur cringe
Ok, āOnlyMaxTCā
Donāt mind him. He works at Microsoft. Any insinuation of hard work makes him nervous.
Keeping calm, composed, and continuing on is a skill of its own. No one always gets everything right outside of interviews. How you handle yourself when you do get something wrong can be more important than getting them right.
Why salesforce never replies to my applications? š
Hilarious post. You will be crushed in the main course with such performance.
OK Intel
Even if itās true, and it may well be, I will have the same attitude that got me this far. Itās all Iāve got and one of my redeeming qualities. I know Iām not an all star engineer but Iām easy to get along with
This is the way! Iām happy for you and think workplaces would be a better place if all engineers had this attitude!
This āļø
Take your time to practice before you schedule the onsite!
So your recruiter fancied you, big deal Just kidding, good for you
I cringed
How attractive are you? male or female?
Iām a male. Hard to say how attractive but definitely not a 1-2 or a 9-10
so avg?
Seeing a lot of negative feedback on the post, so I wanted to counter that by saying congrats! If they moved you beyond the first round, they saw something in you that they think could be valuable in the role, so don't head into the on-sites thinking you're not good enough (unlikely they they are doing it to just waste their own time). As someone who does not perform well in leetcode/live coding scenarios but has still had a very successful tenure in tech and analytics, I can (anecdotally) assure you that there is still hope even if a specific technical interview doesn't go well.
Thank you :). I like to keep my expectations low to remove pressure, but perhaps thatās just a coping mechanism to make failure easier, since I expect it anyway. But I will try to be more positive going into it!
Lots of bitter jealousy and envy on Blind
Thanks for your Humble brag post
Passing a first round interview isnāt that good. If anything I thought Iād get roasted for celebrating just that
Meta used to pass the phone screens if the interviewer thinks you have more than 25% of passing the onsite. Good Luck
