Dear community of Blind, please help me make a decision I am completely stuck. I have been on the same team in Amazon for 2 years now as SDE2 in Alexa org. Previously I really liked my manager, he was amazing and overall good. I also really enjoy the work on the team and the people. However, recently that manager left and a new manager joined, and he is absolutely horrible. I have never seen a manager who is so controlling and micro managing as himself. I cannot trust him whatsoever and I feel he is ready to backstab anyone if needed. Words cannot explain how terrible he is. Now, everyday I dread working with him as he schedules multiple meetings a day to micromanage everyoneās work. It has been absolute hell, multiple people mentioned to me that they are planning to leave the team. However, the skip manager is aware of my performance and gave me TT rating in this review cycle after the old manager left. He has also asked this new manager to put me for SDE3 promo. The new manager and I chatted and he mentioned he will aim for the promo for early next year. I know for a fact that I canāt trust this new manager so I donāt know if this promo will actually happen. So far he is pushing me to almost 60 hour work weeks as a āpre-reqā for promo in his words. Recently, I decided to interview at Microsoft to see what happens and was able to get an offer in Office org. TC offered after negotiation: 195K, L62. however, the work doesnāt seem too interesting. My current TC at Amazon is 240K, L5 with TT rating (but who knows what will happen to my rating next year with this new manager...) I am not sure how L62 compares with L5 and if the drop in TC is worth it. I am also thinking if I should move internally to AWS as a lot of the work in that area interests me, but this risks a complete promo reset. Overall, TC matters a lot me as well as having ok WLB, I just want to get away from this manager he is giving me nightmares...
Escalate this two levels up (his manager plus director level along with tagging HR) Using such language amounts to workplace harassment and your manager should be fired.
Give your manager a break. He is your boss. It takes two minutes to solve this on your end and if It's a Saturday, so what? At your pay grade, they expect you to get things done at any time. Crying about something this minor doesn't make sense to me.
What kind of autocratic mindset is this? If you were my manager, I would leave you in a week just to prove a point
Lol @fubar2020. You are an expert troll
Is your new manager Indian?
Throw in a hint of racism to the mix
That's what I'm trying to comfirm.
Are you me? Change teams internally. There are many folks at Amazon who went from promo doc to PIP in 2 months. I had a terrible manager that gave me panic attack in meeting. Was given TT for my work before. But he micromanaged everything. So before changing teams I got a back up offer from Microsoft O365, in case if he had put me on dev list, so I can quit immediately and then changed teams. So if you have opportunity at Amazon to change teams and keep salary, do it. Because even good managers turn bad because of pressure they receive. Being manager at Amazon sucks too. Being an engineer under that manager is even worse. PS: My new team is good but I am still contemplating if I should stay or take up my back up offer just because of pay difference. Work at backup offer is not good but work and people in my new team are good. But pay at back up offer is pretty amazing.
Sounds like you get it. The OP?
MSFT L62 is a lowball offer. For context 2 years as SDE3 at Amzn and I was offered L65 by MSFT. Work towards L6 at Amazon and then jump ship.
What does the TT rating stand for?
Top Tier

Shoud I remove military experience from my resume?
New managers need time to acclimate to the group culture. Quitting now shows to future companies that you can't handle change. As a HM, I would wonder why you were paid so much at that level and was willing to take such a massive pay cut and were so desperate to leave. Massive red flag here not for MSFT but for future opportunities. Desperate times call for desperate measures, but if your boss is truly that incompetent, he will leave and maybe you can get his job. Win-win.
āQuitting now shows to future companies that you can't handle changeā- no, it doesnāt show anything unless you want it to be shown
What are you talking about? Why would his amazon TC come up when he's already at msft? Ive never heard of companies asking for TC older than the last job. Also, how would anyone know he quit cause of his manager if he never discloses that info...
