For a year I passively applied to pm roles companies while getting more experience as a pm at Capital One; I was getting an interview a month last year. Now that I have 3 yoe, I want to jump ship to make more at a smaller company to learn more and have more agency, but the market seems pretty tight with no interviews in the past three months while on the same application cadence. Anyone else feeling the tightened market? TC $118K
Yes, these are lean times with more supply and less demand. How's it being a PM at Capital One?
My suggestion will be to target really specific businesses where your skills are meaningfully transferable and where you can start diving deeper in a months time as opposed to 5 months time.
THIS. Domain expertise needs to be your differentiator. True all the time really though…
Welcome to reality. Openings are low due to hiring freezes, there’s a big competition due to layoffs. What else should you expect in the given environment?
Where are you based?
Was wondering about jumping to cap1, how is it there? My tc is 300k though…
YOE and lvl?
Your comparison should be TC of 0 of laid off.
Wow this is super telling, esp if nothing else changed in your resume.
“Tight” is my belt after thanksgiving feast! F*** market is tighter than the tightest <insert name>
Well, I hope it stops random people from becoming PMs. For years, anybody that’s not an SDE or DS has been chasing the PM role. It’s led to a lopsided signal to noise ratio where good PMs get drowned out by the sheer volume of stupidity.
A “good” PM being overshadowed by newer PMs probably isn’t good at all. Good PMs will always receive some sort of outreach (obviously a lot less nowadays) but if you can’t easily differentiate yourself amongst the recent PMs, you’re just not as good as you think.
Wrong immediate conclusion. The person might not be amazing at interviews but can still be a great PM.
