PM/Eng of TikTok, can you share how you goal and performance works
1. Do you set half or quarterly goals or every two month
2. How long are your sprints
3. How often and aggressive are performance reviews
Anything you want add? How often is org restructured happen?
1. It used to be bi-monthly, but they just recently changed it to quarterly
2. About every two weeks or so. Could be shorter depending on the urgency from the other team’s dependencies
3. It is pretty brutal now. In our latest annual performance review cycle, a lot of people are worried about their performance results (even the high-performers) because leadership is putting pressure on manager to lower the number of M+ and E’s that they give out
Other things to consider:
4. Restructuring or reorg happens quite often, maybe every 5-6 months (maybe even more often depending on your org and your leadership team)
5. Leadership here is severely lacking, but if you are okay with that, then join knowing that (it will help level set your expectations)
6. There are rumors we might have to go into the office 5 days a week
7. Average tenure is < 12 months (maybe around 8-9 months)
Not worried about the ban, but it could be because our org has so many priorities that we are more preoccupied with than worrying about the ban
I wouldn’t say wlb is the best. We work with teams overseas often, so we also have evening meetings, in addition to working with teams in the US during the day. Occasionally, we work on Sunday’s since our teams overseas start their week then. Just know that going in, but it does vary from team to team.
