Do you see speculations of layoffs? How are Viasat employees feeling about working for the company? Is it a good time to join if I get an offer?
There will be some layoffs soon I'm sure, but more of a result of duplication for non-engineering roles as we work through our integration with Inmarsat after the acquisition. I don't think we'll have much if any outside of that, but we're in the early stages of a big reorganization right now so a lot of people are feeling confused or concerned about where they'll end up.
What would you suggest for someone who is gonna join the company in tech roles? Would they be impacted first? Or do you see layoffs happening only in non tech
There's been a big slowdown in available/open reqs, so if you still are looking at an open req, have an offer, and/or have accepted an offer, then that tells me the position was deemed important enough to keep and not delay. As a result, I think the odds are really low you'd be impacted by any layoffs. Viasat has always tried to be quick to close/delay reqs to decrease the odds of layoffs.
Now the news of 2nd satellite failure makes it worse.
That one is not as important
Viasat tends to hire more in India because of cheaper labor. Offshoring has become the go to approach for most software positions. In fact the number of positions in India in software is now almost equal to ones in the U.S
Layoffs really really soon.
